where are the women?

2023

This artwork interrogates the gender roles prevalent in contemporary Pakistani society. By subverting the traditional spatial hierarchy—replacing the dominant male figure with a defiant female presence—the piece challenges the social constructs that confine women to private spaces while granting men public freedom. Employing the bold techniques of caricature and dramatic exaggeration, the work becomes a form of political satire, advocating for social reform and a reimagined public sphere. The piece is informed by my personal experiences navigating a city where the urban fabric itself reinforces gendered divisions.
